Step 2: In the New Search Folder dialog box, select and highlight the Unread mail item, and click OK.
Now an Unread Mail folder is created and shows in the navigation pane.
Hello, I've currently got Outlook 2007 on my test machine and have found the Unread mail special folder is not working.
When I view the folder I see mails that were previously unread that I have read now but still appear in the Unread Mail folder. Kol Hi Kolin, I seemed to have the same problem as well and despite pressing the F5 key numerous times, or starting and closing out Outlook, deleting and recreating the search folder the Unread Mail search folder still displayed messages that are already read. However, the workaround I've been using is to mark the message as read and then mark it as unread, and hit F5 right afterwards.
That seems to have cleaned up the mailbox, but it is quite cumbersome.
Maybe someone will be able to give more insight into this problem.
And all unread email messages are collected into this folder automatically.
As a basic remedy Outlook 2010 users can go as per following instructions: First go to “Send/Receive” tab on Outlook ribbon bar; select “Send/Receive Groups” - click on “Define Send/Receive Groups…” option.
Step 3: Right click the Unread Mail folder, and click the Show in Favorites item in the right-click menu.
Now the Unread Mail folder is copied and added to your favorites at the top of Navigation Pane.
Please read the below article in detail to know more about what unread folder is and its importance in Outlook.
